Doyle will present ''80s New York Featuring the Keith Haring Pop Shop Collection of Julia Markus'' as a timed online auction closing on Aug. 20, 2026, with an exhibition opening Aug. 7 at the auction house’s New York location on East 87th Street. The sale is framed as a look back at the downtown art scene of 1980s New York and will include artwork, multiples and memorabilia from Keith Haring’s Pop Shop, along with additional material associated with the decade.

According to Doyle’s sale notice, the auction is organized around the creative energy that shaped New York in the 1980s, when street art, graffiti, music, fashion, performance and contemporary art intersected in a fast-changing urban culture. The house says the sale will bring together paintings, drawings, sculpture, prints, multiples, photography and memorabilia from that era. The online auction opens for bidding on July 30 and closes Aug. 20 beginning at 10 a.m., with lots closing sequentially.

A central focus is the ''Keith Haring Pop Shop Collection of Julia Markus.'' Doyle says Keith Haring opened the Pop Shop in SoHo in 1986 as a retail space intended to make his imagery available through affordable prints, posters, apparel and collectibles. The collection offered by Doyle comes from Professor Julia Markus, whom the house identifies as the author of several books including ''Lady Byron and Her Daughters'' and ''J. Anthony Froude: The Last Undiscovered Great Victorian.'' Doyle describes Markus as a lifelong New Yorker and a devoted collector who began visiting the Pop Shop soon after it opened.

The sale text says Markus assembled an extensive group of Pop Shop ephemera over time, including radios, inflatables, magnets, apparel, books and other objects created by Haring and his collaborators. Doyle presents that group as the centerpiece of the auction. The house also says the sale will include works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Kenny Scharf, Ronnie Cutrone and other artists whose work helped define the decade.

The auction is part of Doyle’s broader schedule of summer sales in New York, but the company’s notice keeps this event distinct as a timed online auction rather than a live bidding session. The exhibition schedule listed on the sale page gives visitors the chance to view the material at Doyle New York, 175 East 87th Street, on Aug. 7 from noon to 5 p.m., then on Aug. 10-14 from noon to 5 p.m., and again on Aug. 17 and 18 during the same hours. Doyle also lists a panel discussion on Aug. 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring specialist Angelo Madrigale in conversation with Professor Julia Markus and former Keith Haring Foundation Executive Director Gil Vazquez; reservations are required.

Doyle’s announcement places the sale within a run of summer auctions that includes books, coins, jewelry and other categories, but ''80s New York'' stands apart for its focus on one of the city’s most recognizable art-world moments and on the Pop Shop material gathered by Markus. The timed online auction closes Aug. 20 at 10 a.m.
