Bluerider ART Taipei · Dunhua will open 'Song of Youth: Brushing the Sun' on 1 August, presenting a 2026 open call exhibition for Taiwan artists born after 1985. The show brings together 21 artists and 60 works selected from a large field of applicants, and the gallery frames the project as its first open call result exhibition held in Taiwan after earlier related initiatives in 2024 and 2025 focused on Chinese artists born after 1985.
According to the gallery’s announcement, the exhibition emerged from 500 submissions and 2,000 works, with the final selection drawn from artists who have received full academy training and are described as being at a fertile stage of early career development. The participating artists, listed alphabetically by surname in the source, are Wu Shang-Wei, Cindy Yu Chia-Hsin, Lee Hsiao Sheng, Lin Yi Ju, Lin Bo Young, Hou Guan Ting, Weng Huai I, Chen Yan Ni, Chen Yi An, Chen Nien Ying, Chen Hong Hsin, Chen Tzu Yu, Chen Kuang Jui, Yang Chih Han, Yeh Ting Hsuan, Liao Pai Hsien, Tsai Ming-Tsan, Pan Yu Yang, Liu Zheng Rong, Liu Wei Chun, and Ku Cheng-Yang.
The gallery presents the exhibition as a reflection on how a younger generation faces uncertainty, casting the theme as a dialogue between Eastern and Western ways of thinking. The curatorial statement connects the title to the Chinese poetic tradition of 'Song of Youth' and to the phrase 'Brushing the Sun,' drawn from 'Li Sao,' while the accompanying text also cites Rainer Maria Rilke’s advice to 'live the questions now.' In the gallery’s framing, the exhibition brings together these perspectives not as a clash but as two approaches to creativity: one reaching outward, one growing inward.
Bluerider ART’s website says the show includes media ranging across painting, ink, gouache, mixed media, fiber, sculpture and animation. In the exhibition text, the gallery says the artists were trained in different fields and are working with a range of materials and formats that mirror the diversity of Taiwan’s contemporary art scene. The site’s artist notes and works list show that the presentation spans ink-based practice, embroidery, textile, lacquer, resin, sculpture, installation and stop-motion animation among other forms.
The exhibition page also outlines how the artists’ practices diverge in subject matter. Some artists work through landscape, nature and memory; others examine body, space, identity, faith, ritual, consumer culture or the relationship between image and text. Several artists use traditional ink and color methods in contemporary ways, while others extend into animation, sculpture or object-based installation. The gallery describes the show as a snapshot of a vibrant and varied contemporary moment in Taiwan.
The opening schedule includes a media briefing on 31 July 2026 from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m., followed by an opening reception on 1 August from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., with the opening ceremony at 3:30 p.m. and a public guided tour, with artists present. 'Song of Youth: Brushing the Sun' runs from 1 August to 4 October 2026 at Bluerider ART Taipei · Dunhua, 1 F., No. 77, Sec. 2, Dunhua S.
