Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh is preparing a member preview for Amanda Ross-Ho’s latest solo exhibition, 'Untitled Second Floor (ONE BIG DARK ROOM),' on August 7, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. The museum describes the project as a major architectural installation made entirely onsite specifically for the Mattress Factory space. Members are invited to ascend to the fourth floor of 500 Sampsonia Street to see the new installation, then gather in the lobby at 6:45 p.m. for a brief Q&A with the artist.
The preview is being organized as a member-exclusive event, with drinks available in the lobby throughout the evening. Mattress Factory’s announcement also notes practical details for visitors, including limited parking in the museum’s main lot at 505 Jacksonia Street and additional street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. The event is tied directly to the opening of the exhibition rather than to a broader public program.
Ross-Ho is currently an artist-in-residence at Mattress Factory, and the museum positions the exhibition as part of its artist-centered residency model. Mattress Factory describes itself as an international residency program and presenter of installation art, with a focus on giving artists time and space to develop site-specific projects in Pittsburgh. In that context, Ross-Ho’s new work is presented as a project shaped for the building itself.
The museum’s description emphasizes Ross-Ho’s installation practice. Her work takes the form of sculptural installations and material environments that propose dynamic and imagined ecologies of labor and time. Mattress Factory says her work aims to function as a sensitive instrument, tuned to observe, record, transcribe and translate the landscapes of made and lived-in surroundings. That framing matches the exhibition’s emphasis on architecture, site, and material presence.
A separate line in the museum’s event materials notes that associated programming will follow the opening of 'Untitled Second Floor (ONE BIG DARK ROOM).' The first iteration of that performance and intervention, titled 'Untitled Demolition (HYPHEN),' is scheduled for August 14, beginning at 5 p.m. The museum identifies that as a distinct program linked to the exhibition, not part of the August 7 member preview.
Additional calendar material from Mattress Factory indicates that the exhibition will continue to anchor programming later in the month. On August 25, the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council’s Creative Hive event is scheduled at Mattress Factory from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with access to the museum’s lobby lounge, outdoor garden and all four floors of the galleries at 500 Sampsonia Street, including Ross-Ho’s newest installation. The arts council describes Creative Hive as a monthly networking program for artists, creatives, art educators, culture bearers and arts administrators.
Mattress Factory’s member newsletter and event pages also identify Ross-Ho’s installation as part of a wider sequence of summer programming at the museum, but the August 7 preview remains the first announced opportunity for members to encounter the work. The exhibition is made possible by Teiger Foundation and is listed for 500 Sampsonia Street in Pittsburgh.
