San Francisco Museum of Modern Art will present ‘RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me’ from October 3, 2026, through February 7, 2027, with member previews scheduled for October 1–3 and timed public tickets going on sale August 11. The exhibition brings together 200 works from the collections of RM and SFMOMA, marking the first-ever museum exhibition to feature artworks from the personal collection of RM of BTS alongside works from the museum’s holdings.
SFMOMA says the exhibition will be shown on Floor 7 and will require timed tickets for all visitors. The museum is also introducing the Encore Pass, a new option that allows unlimited repeat visits to the exhibition during its run from opening day through the final weekend. The pass will be available beginning August 11 and includes same-day access to the museum’s galleries with each visit.
According to the museum, the exhibition focuses on modern and contemporary Korean artworks in conversation with international works, and many of the pieces from RM’s collection have never before been exhibited publicly in the United States. Artists named in the museum’s materials include Yun Hyong-keun, Park Rehyun, Kwon Okyon, Kim Yun Shin, To Sangbong, Chang Ucchin, Kim Whanki, Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe and Paul Klee. SFMOMA’s preview materials also list Yves Klein, Wayne Thiebaud, Han Youngsoo, Wonwoo Lee and Yoo Youngkuk among the artists represented.
The exhibition is organized by SFMOMA and curated by RM, identified by the museum as RM (Kim Namjoon), with exhibition co-curators América Castillo, Curatorial Project Manager at SFMOMA, and Hyoeun Kim, Assistant Curator of Painting and Sculpture at SFMOMA. In an RM statement reproduced on the exhibition page, he describes the project as reflecting “boundaries” between East and West, Korea and America, the modern and the contemporary, and the personal and the universal, while adding that he does not want to prescribe how the works should be seen.
SFMOMA’s exhibition page presents the project as a chance to see resonances between the Korean works in RM’s collection and complementary SFMOMA holdings. The museum highlights pairings that include Korean artist Kim Whanki alongside American and European artists, as well as works by Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe and Paul Klee. The online preview also shows installation images and selected works from RM’s collection, including Yun Hyong-keun’s ‘Untitled’ (1973), Chang Ucchin’s ‘The River Scene’ (1988), and Yoo Youngkuk’s ‘Work (Sea)’ (1982).
Visitor information released by the museum says public tickets will be sold online only, with a ticket limit of 10 per transaction. SFMOMA says visitors 18 and younger and museum members may enter for free, while nonmembers will pay museum admission plus a surcharge. The museum notes that members can purchase preview tickets beginning August 4 and that members who join by October 1 will receive an ‘RM x SFMOMA’ Member Magazine with an exclusive poster.
