‘Art of Manga’ will be presented in the Brooklyn Museum’s Great Hall, 1st Floor, from October 3, 2026, through January 31, 2027. The exhibition is the first major exhibition in the Americas to explore manga—Japanese comics and graphic novels—as an art form.
The Brooklyn presentation marks the exhibition’s East Coast debut and features more than 600 drawings. It includes an astonishing selection of original manga artworks, with examples from the series ‘Inuyasha,’ ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,’ ‘Ōoku: The Inner Chambers,’ and ‘ONE PIECE,’ among many more.
The exhibition addresses universal themes including coming of age, tapping into hidden strengths, and finding beauty in the ordinary. It also addresses contemporary issues such as environmentalism, gender roles, LGBTQ+ rights, and socioeconomic inequality.
‘Art of Manga’ frames the medium as a global phenomenon driven by creators who design, draw, and very often author the stories that define manga.
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco organized ‘Art of Manga.’ Nicole Coolidge Rousmaniere, Deputy Director General of the MOA Museum of Art, Mokichi Okada Art and Culture Foundation, is the exhibition’s curator at both venues.
