Bratislava City Gallery is preparing ‘Stred je inde II.’ for Pálffy Palace in Bratislava, where the exhibition is scheduled to run from 14 May to 27 September 2026. Presented in the palace basement, the project is curated by Jana Babušiaková and brings together the work of Slovak artists Klára Kusá and Andrea Uváčiková, alongside invited contributors Zbyněk Baladrán, Martina Chudá, Hedwich Rooks and Hiroshi Takizawa.
The exhibition is framed as an examination of trauma as a consequence of how society functions. According to the gallery’s material, Kusá and Uváčiková question the common idea that deteriorating mental health is a failure of the individual. The project draws on contemporary philosophical texts as well as personal experience, placing psychological vulnerability and social pressures at the center of its visual and conceptual approach.
The gallery says the artists work with text, digital image, video and reused materials. That combination underpins a method that moves between documentation, interpretation and public engagement. The exhibition also brings in guest authorship and the audience itself to deliberately unsettle the traditional hierarchy between artist and viewer, making participation part of the work’s structure rather than an added educational layer.
‘Stred je inde II.’ appears as one of several spring and summer exhibitions announced by the gallery for 2026, but it has a distinct social and conceptual focus. The material supplied by the institution links the project to mental health and social issues, and describes it as critically examining societal traumas and their relation to social functioning. The title suggests a stance of displacement or off-centre thinking, and the exhibition’s basement location in Pálffy Palace reinforces its emphasis on looking beneath surface narratives.
