The Museum of Contemporary Art Helga de Alvear in Cáceres is presenting a new collection display titled '¿Puede el archipiélago entrar en el Museo?', bringing together works from the Helga de Alvear Collection and including pieces that have not previously been shown in the museum. The exhibition is part of a wider summer programme that also includes a temporary show by Patricia Gómez and María Jesús González, family workshops and a screening session in the museum auditorium.
According to the museum’s newsletter, the collection presentation invites visitors to move through the galleries and discover a selection of works seen in a new expository arrangement. The museum says the display includes new works and that some of the pieces have never before been exhibited there. No individual artists are listed in the announcement for this collection show, which is framed as an opportunity to revisit the holdings of the institution through a different curatorial lens.
The announcement arrives as the museum continues to programme activities aimed at different audiences during July and August. Among them is Helga Campamento de Arte, a week-long summer camp for children aged six to 12, running Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 14:00 across eight sessions between 6 July and 28 August. The museum describes the camp as a mix of creative activities linked to contemporary art, with yoga, music, breakfast and other programmed elements.
The newsletter also foregrounds 'Espejo del mundo', the temporary exhibition by Patricia Gómez and María Jesús González, which is on view until 11 October. The museum says the presentation gathers, for the first time, the full body of work the artists developed around the former Provincial Psychiatric Hospital of Bétera in Valencia, and adds new works produced by the Helga de Alvear Museum, including a new project developed in Cáceres at the former Cárcel Vieja site.
Alongside the exhibition, the museum is offering guided visits on Fridays at 20:00 and collection tours on Thursday to Saturday afternoons at 19:30, as well as Saturdays and Sundays at 12:00. The family-focused programme includes workshops connected to works by Olafur Eliasson, Patricia Gómez and María Jesús González, and Carsten Höller, with dates listed throughout July. The institution says the workshops are for children aged six to 12 and do not require an accompanying adult.
A further public event in the museum’s programme is 'Cinemundo: proyectar en un campo de islas', scheduled for Wednesday, 15 July at 19:00 in the museum auditorium. Presented within the project 'Un Museo Abierto al Mundo', the screening series features films selected by migrants. The museum lists its opening hours for 'Espejo del mundo' as Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00, and Sundays from 10:00 to 14:30.
