A talk presented in conjunction with the exhibition ‘Buenos Aires Modern, 1935–1950’ will feature Ana Maria Leon, an associate professor of architecture at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
Leon will discuss how Grete Stern’s photomontages were used by a diverse range of cultural and political entities in Buenos Aires.
The talk will examine how avant-garde, populist and conservative ideas mingled under Peronism.
Following Leon’s presentation, Eric Mumford will join her to discuss related themes in the exhibition and architectural modernism more broadly.
