'Arsovski – Photographers' opens at the Museum of the City of Skopje on 29 October 2026, following its premiere in Zagreb the previous year.

The presentation continues cooperation between the Museum of Arts and Crafts and the Museum of the City of Skopje, and resulted from an agreement strengthening cultural cooperation between Croatia and North Macedonia that was signed in March.

The exhibition is the result of research by the two museums into the previously unknown photographic work of the Arsovski family.

The family connects Croatian and Macedonian photographic histories: Mihajlo Arsovski, a pioneer of Croatian graphic design, came from a Macedonian photographic family that operated a studio in central Skopje for two generations.

After the Second World War, Konstantin moved with his family to Zagreb, where he opened a photography shop of the same name and ran it until 1957, while Vladimir went to Paris.

The family’s photographs include urban views of old Skopje, Christian monuments, traditional customs, agricultural work, harvests and village gatherings, as well as the city’s interwar fashion and social and cultural life.

Researchers reconstructed the family’s history through archives, museums and private collections while examining its role in the development of professional and amateur photography in Macedonia.

Most of the photographs remain in the family’s possession, while others are held by the Museum of the City of Skopje and the Macedonian Center for Photography.
