‘Spotlight Tour: Disavowed, with Julianne Wu ’28’ is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026.
On the tour, Wu will examine instances of disavowal through three works that illuminate, disturb, or challenge authority. One of the selected works is ‘Bearded Man, Possibly Emperor Macrinus,’ a Roman portrait dated to the early to mid-third century CE. The listing also names Max Beckmann’s ‘Self-Portrait in Tuxedo’ from 1927 and Franz Kline’s ‘High Street’ from 1950.
The event belongs to Spotlight Tours, a program of tours designed and led by Harvard undergraduates from a range of academic disciplines. Within that program, each tour focuses on objects chosen by the student and gives visitors a unique, thematic view into the collections.
Spotlight Tours typically feature three works of art, use a conversational format, and last about 45 minutes.
‘Disavowed’ is an in-person, free event at Harvard Art Museums, located at 32 Quincy Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Visitors must check in at the Visitor Services desk, and space is limited.
