Dulwich Picture Gallery has announced 'Hokusai: Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji from the Iuchi Collection', a landmark exhibition running from 20 October 2026 to 17 January 2027. The gallery says the show will bring together, for the first time in the UK, a complete high-quality set of Katsushika Hokusai’s iconic 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji', alongside rare versions of prints from the series, including 'Under the Wave off Kanagawa' ('The Great Wave').
The exhibition is presented by Dulwich Picture Gallery, which described the project in a Friends email sent in July 2026 as one of the most anticipated exhibitions of the year. The message said Friends would receive a 10-day priority booking window, with access opening at 10am on 21 July before tickets go on general sale on 31 July. The gallery also said Friends can join from £46 and receive year-round benefits including free entry to temporary exhibitions and the Collection, private views, specialist tours, priority booking for events, discounts in the shop and access to the members’ magazine, 'In View'.
The core of the exhibition is the Iuchi Collection, the source of the prints featured in the display. The gallery’s email identified the collection images as belonging to the Iuchi Collection, on deposit at the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo, and credited photographs by Norihiro Ueno. Among the works referenced in the announcement are 'Under the Wave off Kanagawa' ('The Great Wave') and 'Clear Day with a Southern Breeze' ('Red Fuji'), both from the 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji' series, dated c. 1830–33.
Dulwich Picture Gallery’s announcement places the series in its broader art-historical context, calling it a masterpiece of Japanese art and one of the most influential print series ever created. The gallery’s wording also stresses the international recognition of Hokusai’s views of Mount Fuji, which it said have captivated audiences around the world. The exhibition’s emphasis on a complete set, rather than selected highlights, suggests a strong collecting and curatorial focus on the series as a coherent body of work.
The Hokusai exhibition is being announced alongside another future show at the gallery, 'Charlie Mackesy: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse... and You', scheduled for 3 November 2026 to 7 February 2027. Dulwich Picture Gallery described that presentation as the first UK museum exhibition dedicated to the artist and author, and said it would include never-before-seen sketches, unpublished studies and original works. The two exhibitions are being promoted together in the gallery’s Friends campaign, though the Hokusai show remains the main focus of the announcement.
For visitors planning ahead, the gallery has given the exhibition dates and stressed that demand is expected to be exceptionally high. 'Hokusai: Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji from the Iuchi Collection' will be shown at Dulwich Picture Gallery in London from 20 October 2026 to 17 January 2027.
