JD Malat Gallery is presenting ‘FROM DUST TO BLOOM’, a solo exhibition by German artist Stephan Kaluza.
Rooted in timeless inspiration from nature, the exhibition arrays Kaluza’s depictions of the subject in both hyper-realistic and abstract paintings, returning across both approaches to landscapes, forests and other natural environments as subjects in transformation.
In the ‘Transit’ series, the works initially appear to serve as highly precise, preservative images of a seemingly intact world; gradually, they become more ambiguous as disturbances enter the image and forms begin to shift, making the distinction between an observed place and an imagined one difficult to maintain.
‘The Disappeared’ is dated 2024. ‘Transit 311 (Sunset)’ is dated 2026.
