The Museum August Macke Haus in Bonn has announced a July program built around its current special exhibition, 'Visionen der Moderne – August Macke und Max Ernst'. According to the museum’s newsletter, the exhibition is air-conditioned, and the institution is pairing it with guided tours, public activities, a garden opening, and a family workshop series throughout the month.

The museum, which is dedicated to the legacy of August Macke and connected with the artist’s former home and studio in Bonn, says the summer schedule is meant to give visitors opportunities to encounter modern art in different formats. The month begins with a focus on the special exhibition itself, while other events extend the museum’s programming beyond the galleries to include the building’s film room, café, garden, and education spaces.

One of the early highlights is 'Macke im Dialog: Vom Atelierhaus zur Street Art' on Saturday, 11 July, at 11 a.m. The guided format is titled 'Vorbilder – Nachbilder' and centers on the mural by Marie Hesse, which the museum says develops August Macke’s painting 'Mädchen mit blauen Vögeln' for public space. The tour is led by Dr. Marie-Christin Gerwens-Voß and is free of charge, supported by the Dr. Hans Riegel-Stiftung, with registration required and a limit of 12 participants.

On 11 and 12 July, the museum is also taking part in the 'Offene Gartenpforte', opening its garden to visitors from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The newsletter notes that guests can visit the garden and its plantings during that weekend. In addition, the museum says the garden will be open again as part of the open garden initiative, and visitors are invited to enjoy it with a cold drink from the café.

The program continues on Thursday, 16 July, with 'Kunstbegegnung – Kunst und Austausch im Museum August Macke Haus' from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. The format is aimed at older people seeking more community and exchange in everyday life. Later that day, at 5.30 p.m., the museum is offering another public format, 'Im Austausch – Expert:innenrundgänge', through 'Visionen der Moderne – August Macke und Max Ernst'. Dr. Barbara J. Scheuermann, head of exhibitions at Kunstmuseum Bonn, will guide the tour and share her perspective on the works. The visit costs 5 euros, or 3 euros for students with the Kulturticket, plus admission.

Further July events include a children’s and family studio on 19 July, titled 'Farbrausch und Fantasiegestalten', which introduces participants ages four and up to the colorful worlds of August Macke and the dreamlike figures associated with Max Ernst. On Friday, 24 July, Dr. Friederike Voßkamp will lead a director’s tour of 'Visionen der Moderne – August Macke und Max Ernst'. The museum says the special exhibition is also the setting for its free-admission Sunday on 19 July, made possible by the Stiftung Kunst der Sparkasse in Bonn, and that more summer programming, including a holiday workshop from 18 to 21 August, will follow later in the season.
