‘Vibration Calibration’ marks the first time that Buckerfield and Hicks have worked collaboratively. Over the last two years, Wolverhampton-based artists Claire Buckerfield and Tom Hicks (Black Country Type) have worked collaboratively to conceive the exhibition ‘Vibration Calibration’.
The exhibition takes its title from a mechanical process that measures the accuracy of vibration sensors, offering a recalibration of perceptions of the Black Country through the artists’ portrayal of the area.
The post-industrial landscape of the region is at the core of both artists’ practices and has been fundamental to the development of the exhibition’s new work. From observations made in the urban environment, through working with local manufacturers, to positioning the works in a gallery space that overlooks Walsall town centre and beyond, each phase of creating the exhibition has been embedded in the West Midlands.
The exhibition preview is scheduled for Friday 30 October, from 6 to 8pm.
Using a vivid colour palette and works made in a range of mediums—including photography, industrial tape, vacuum-formed plastic and powder-coated metal, among others—the artists have reimagined building facades, brickwork and security screens, encouraging a reconsideration of how the area is perceived.
