Galleri Christoffer Egelund has announced ‘My Life is a Summer’, the gallery’s first solo exhibition by Spanish sculptor Juan Miguel Quiñones García.
In García’s work, childhood memories take shape as ice creams, skateboards and flippers carved in marble and stone.
The sculptures combine these familiar objects with the refined ‘pietra dura’ inlay technique developed during the Italian Renaissance.
At the centre of these memories is the ‘Drácula’ ice cream, a Spanish childhood classic that holds a deeply personal place in García’s imagination. A sculptural reproduction of the Danish childhood favourite ice cream ‘Kung Fu’ serves as a playful Nordic counterpart to ‘Drácula’ and is described as one of the exhibition’s main attractions.
Born in Spain in 1979, Quiñones García is a contemporary sculptor whose work bridges traditional stone craftsmanship and pop-art aesthetics.
