Lyndsey Ingram is presenting ‘Floating Lawns’, an exhibition of new large-scale collages by Georgie Hopton, at 20 Bourdon Street, London, from 13 October to 13 November 2026.
The collages examine the interplay between memory, loss and transformation through the physical act of making, a process in which personal memories and emotions emerge through colour, surface and botanical imagery.
Hopton’s inspiration for the series began with a visit to Japan in early 2025, where she responded to the rigour, beauty and contemplative quality of Japanese aesthetics and artistic culture, while Japanese garden ponds became a significant source of inspiration because their still surfaces mirrored reflections that felt both familiar and unexpected.
That influence appears in the large vertical collages, whose compositions are divided into two symmetrical sides that seem to mirror one another, while flowers collide with vibrant patterns and unexpected textures to create a kaleidoscopic sense of movement and fluidity, evoking pond surfaces disturbed by ripples and movement.
Across the layered works, images hover between recognition and abstraction as collage layers coalesce, transforming profoundly personal experiences into tangible objects through which memory and emotion can be held, reimagined and encountered anew.
