The fair’s vernissage takes place on October 22, followed by public days from October 23 through 25. AKAA—Also Known as Africa—is located at Carreau du Temple, 4 rue Eugène Spuller, 75003 Paris.
Pecou’s work listed for the presentation is ‘Reflection Eternal II,’ dated 2026 and made in acrylic on Belgian linen. Wylie’s listed work is ‘Urban Water Diviner,’ dated 2026 and made in oil on canvas.
BACKSLASH describes the American artist Fahamu Pecou’s broader practice as using painting to deconstruct and reconfigure dominant narratives about Black identity through history, popular culture and contemporary imaginaries. That description presents painting as a territory in which those narratives are addressed across these areas of reference.
The exhibition ‘b(EYE)rth r(EYE)ght’ celebrates vision as an inalienable, intimate and sovereign birthright.
