The Musée national Magnin in Dijon is presenting 'Djamel Tatah. Répéter – Muter' from 22 May to 20 September 2026, in partnership with the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon. The two museums describe the project as a shared look at the work of Djamel Tatah, the contemporary artist born in 1959, whose paintings are known here through a focus on variation, repetition and the theme of falling. The exhibition is spread between the two institutions, with the museum saying it unfolds “au cœur du Palais des ducs et des États de Bourgogne et dans l’écrin du musée Magnin.”

According to the museum’s announcement, the exhibition brings together nearly 90 works, including paintings and prints, alongside an exceptional presentation of three suspended panels installed in the stairwell of the Hôtel Lantin, the historic building that houses the Musée national Magnin. The online listing for the show also describes it as including a monumental installation and notes that the route is designed to reveal an artistic universe inhabited by the human figure, where memory and forms circulate, change and answer one another.

The museum frames the exhibition around Tatah’s use of repetition not as simple duplication but as a way of producing variation. The source material says the show explores “la puissance de la variation et de la répétition” in his painting, while also addressing how bodies and figures appear, fall, and transform. In a separate guided-tour text, the museum says visitors are invited to observe figures that “tombent, se répètent et se transforment,” with gestures and folds of the body shifting and metamorphosing across the works on view.

The project also creates a dialogue with Dijon’s collections, which the museum says is intended to provoke new resonances. That institutional pairing is central to the presentation: the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Musée national Magnin are not simply co-promoters, but co-hosts of an exhibition route that links their spaces. A paired guided visit is scheduled on selected days until 30 August 2026, with the route taking visitors from one museum to the other to see the exhibition in full.

The museum has also built a substantial public programme around the exhibition. Among the listed events are guided tours of the exhibition at the Musée national Magnin on selected dates in July and August, a musical visit on 30 June, and family activities tied to the museum’s summer calendar. The museum also lists a coupled artistic workshop, 'Répéter - muter / Dessiner - graver', on 31 July 2026, beginning at the Musée national Magnin and continuing in the afternoon at the Musée des Beaux-Arts.

Related events extend the exhibition’s focus into performance and discussion. 'Raconter la peinture', held on 8 July 2026, is linked to the museum’s collaboration with the Utpictura18 database project, while 'DANSE - Lignes de chute' on 22 July 2026 is presented as a choreographic walk in response to Djamel Tatah’s exhibition. The museum also lists a 'Midi bien-être' drawing session, 'La ligne claire chez Djamel Tatah', on 10 and 24 July 2026, using the artist’s black-line-on-white approach as the basis for a lunchtime drawing activity in the context of the 9th edition of Printemps du dessin.

The exhibition runs at the Musée Magnin in Dijon until 20 September 2026, with opening hours listed as 10:00 to 18:00.
