Henry Moore Studios & Gardens has scheduled a curator’s tour of ‘The Art and Life of Henry Moore’ for Wednesday 7 October 2026, from 14:30 to 15:30, at Sheep Field Barn in Hertfordshire. The event is presented as a guided tour and forms part of the Henry Moore Studios & Gardens research programme 2026.
‘The Art and Life of Henry Moore’ presents over 80 sculptures made between 1922 and 1986, alongside photographs and archival materials from the Henry Moore Foundation Collections. The exhibition is presented in the newly-opened Sheep Field Barn Gallery, where the sculptures are shown with photographic and archival material from the collections. Its works cover a period extending from 1922 to 1986, while the accompanying photographs and archival materials come from the Henry Moore Foundation Collections.
The special display for 2026 focuses on Moore’s Shelter Drawings, created during the Second World War and described by the institution as among the most powerful and widely recognised works of his career. Developed over a relatively short but exceptionally intense period, from 1940 to the summer of 1941, the drawings formed a concentrated burst of activity that resulted in more than 300 works; thirty are on display in the exhibition, accompanied by material from the Henry Moore Archive. Commissioned by the War Artists Advisory Committee, the drawings show Londoners sheltering in the London Underground during the Blitz of 1940–41 and were among the first works Moore made after moving from London to Perry Green, Hertfordshire.
The event is drop-in, and entry is included in an annual ticket.
