‘Stadens färger’ features Edvin Lindholm-Houge’s work from 19 September to 7 February 2027.

The exhibition places particular emphasis on Lindholm-Houge’s late work, combining works from Kalmar konstmuseums collection with loans from private individuals. It presents him as a painter of Kalmar’s interiors, exteriors and residents, including people working and talking quietly.

Lindholm-Houge painted a city he saw as disappearing while publicly opposing the demolition campaign in prominent local-newspaper articles. Rather than Kalmar’s grand villas or modern concrete buildings, he focused on modest, soulful remnants left in the city’s overlooked spaces.

One central work depicts furniture pushed into an attic, described as a place where time is allowed to rest. ‘Two Women by a Staircase’ is a 1958 work by Edvin Lindholm-Houge.
