The latest issue of Oud Holland is devoted to Vincent van Gogh and seventeenth-century art from the Low Countries. Volume 139 (2026), Issue 1–2, dated June 2026, is identified as a special issue on Vincent van Gogh and seventeenth-century Netherlandish art. The issue contains seven articles examining Van Gogh’s relationship to different artists and to literature about seventeenth-century art.

One of the issue’s articles, ‘He is well and truly Dutch’: Vincent van Gogh and seventeenth-century Netherlandish art, is by Jan Dirk Baetens and Elmer Kolfin. Another article, ‘Twenty years of intense study: Van Gogh’s favourite books on Dutch seventeenth-century art’, examines Van Gogh’s favourite books on Dutch seventeenth-century art across twenty years of intense study.

The contents also include ‘Van Gogh’s admiration for Jan van Goyen’s Landscape with two oaks (1641)’, an article specifically about Van Gogh’s admiration for Jan van Goyen’s work. ‘An arrangement of lemon yellow, pale blue and pearl grey: What Van Gogh saw in Johannes Vermeer’ considers what Van Gogh saw in Johannes Vermeer through the arrangement of lemon yellow, pale blue and pearl grey.

Teio Meedendorp contributes ‘Van Gogh and Peter Paul Rubens: Portraits and colour as form’, an article on Van Gogh’s approach to Peter Paul Rubens that focuses on portraits and colour as form.
