Admission to Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte will be free on Sunday 4 October 2026. The free-admission day coincides with the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of Italy.

Colantonio’s ‘San Francesco che consegna la regola agli ordini francescani’ has returned to the gallery after restoration. The restored work is displayed with other elements of the San Lorenzo Maggiore polyptych, including ‘San Girolamo nel suo studio’ and recently acquired panels depicting Franciscan blesseds.

The museum has assembled the works of the San Lorenzo Maggiore polyptych from the church of San Lorenzo Maggiore in Naples in room 67 on the second floor, a room dedicated entirely to Colantonio. The free-admission visit also includes the recently inaugurated Porcelain Gallery.

On the free-admission day, the Real Bosco and park will remain open at their usual hours, while the museum’s first and third floors will be closed, including the sections devoted to contemporary art and the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The new presentation of the work symbolically opened Capodimonte’s initiatives for the 2026 celebrations of Saint Francis 800, the patron saint of Italy.
