‘Against the Tide’ opens at Firstsite on Saturday 10 October.
The exhibition presents photographs by Polly Braden, whose work brings viewers into the lives of a generation growing up in coastal communities.
The photographs document what life is really like for young people growing up in coastal Britain, extending from Tendring to Blackpool.
The exhibition includes coastal communities in Tendring, Weston-super-Mare, Scarborough, Grimsby, Southend, Portsmouth, Whitehaven, Rhyl and Blackpool. These communities are described as some of England’s most deprived and often forgotten places.
