‘Sobre imágenes y desobediencia. Carta blanca a Eli Cortiñas’ is an audiovisual cycle curated by the artist Eli Cortiñas. The program is listed from 1 to 3 October 2026 and proposes three days of cinema and video focused on memory, power and forms of representation.
The cycle is presented within the framework of the exhibition ‘Eli Cortiñas. La máquina sueña con humo’. It is organized in dialogue with Cortiñas’s installation ‘La máquina sueña con humo’, which is exhibited at the Museo Reina Sofía.
The program brings together political critique, post-internet delirium, militant cinema and contemporary theory, addressing narratives that unsettle, disobey or question the hegemonic regime of the gaze. Admission to the cycle is free until capacity is reached.
The screening program opens with ‘The Lighting’ (2021), a video-art work by Musquiqui Chihying concerning the material conditions necessary for visibility. In ‘Matter Gone Wild’ (2023), Josèfa Ntjam brings revolutionary figures, vegetal matter and biomorphic beings together in a speculative ecology, forming dissident alliances across colonial histories and diverse temporalities.
In ‘The Machine Monologues’ (2024), by Eli Cortiñas, the voices of humanoid robots, avatars and chatbots circulate through the systems that organize everyday life. ‘Soleil Ô’ (1970), by Med Hondo, portrays another machinery of representation: the colonial order and the cinema that helped naturalize it.
