Atsushi Miura, director of the Ohara Museum of Art, will give a lecture in Kyoto on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Titled ‘Claude Monet and Japan,’ the lecture will address the formation of collections and the creation of modern Japanese Western-style painting.
Miura is identified as the Ohara Museum of Art’s director, an art historian and professor emeritus of the University of Tokyo.
The lecture will discuss Monet, Impressionism and Monet’s reception in Japan while referring to works in the host museum’s collection, which includes eight works by Monet, including five paintings from the ‘Water Lilies’ series.
Attendance is limited to 200 people, and advance registration is required, with places available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will take place at RIHGA Royal Hotel Kyoto rather than at the museum.
The lecture forms part of the Asahi Group Oyamazaki Sanso Museum’s 30th-anniversary programme, which includes a Monet-focused exhibition and related anniversary programming.
