On September 9, 2026, the Ohara Museum of Art introduced Camille Pissarro’s ‘Apple Pickers’, a painting of people harvesting apples under bright sunlight.
The museum’s presentation identifies a precise structure within the rural scene. The workers form a triangular, pyramid-like arrangement, with the head of the woman at the centre serving as its apex. A patch of tree shade on the ground takes on roughly the same triangular shape.
The ground itself occupies a large part of the composition. In noting both its expanse and the shape of its shadow, the museum’s introduction directs attention to the painted field as well as to the apple pickers at work.
