Its description includes Chagall’s fantasies of lovers floating in the air, wedding bouquets above city skylines, scenes from Vitebsk, inverted houses and churches, fiddlers, and aerial clocks.
Meyer’s account follows Chagall’s career through Russia, Paris, Berlin, France, America, and his return to France.
Franz Meyer, the book’s author, was Chagall’s son-in-law.
The volume contains more than 1,250 black-and-white and color photographic reproductions, including 53 tipped-in color plates.
