The portfolio contains a [10]-page index and 144 loose plates in a color-illustrated portfolio. Including the portfolio and index covers, it comprises 146 plates in total.
The plates were printed by artists of the Taller de Gráfica Popular, including Jesús Álvarez Amaya, Luis Arenal, Elena Huerta, Antonio Pujol, Ignacio Aguirre, Elizabeth Catlett de Mora and Alfredo Zalce. The broader group identified in the publication also includes Ángel Bracho, Antonio Morales, Francisco Mora, Isidoro Ocampo, Adolfo Quinteros, Héctor Ventura, Everardo Ramírez, Pablo O’Higgins, Javier Íñiguez and Celia Calderón.
The portfolio’s subject is tied to commemorations of the 150th anniversary of Mexico’s War of Independence and the 50th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution. The images were originally rendered as engravings, woodcuts or linocuts, then printed in black-and-white lithography, with ten colour plates produced as high-quality offset reproductions. The portfolio and index covers were rendered in colour lithography.
The publication incorporates 65 graphics from the portfolio ‘Estampas de la Revolución Mexicana,’ published in 1947, while 82 of its graphics were produced in 1960.
