Visitors have one month left to visit the exhibition. ‘Diederik Schneemann – 1 + 1 = 3’ runs at Museum JAN in Amstelveen from 8 May through 1 November 2026.
The exhibition is Schneemann’s first museum solo presentation, combining existing work with a number of new objects.
Schneemann transforms thousands of dice, washed-up flip-flops, perfume bottles and matchboxes into furniture, sculptures and installations. He changes existing items by altering their appearance or use, giving them an additional dimension. The dice are incorporated into the furniture only after they have landed on six, a process intended to capture luck and create a lucky object.
The series ‘Cherished’ includes cabinets and clocks made from matchboxes, chandeliers made from hundreds of perfume bottles, and a desk covered with cigar bands. In ‘MashUp’, a series of 3D-printed furniture, Schneemann combines parts of world-famous designs and asks whether the result should be recognized as a Rietveld, an Eames or a Schneemann.
Schneemann grew up in Maastricht and studied at the AKI ArtEZ Academy of Art and Design in Enschede. In 2011, he made his debut with his first solo exhibition, ‘A Flip Flop Story’, during Milan Design Week.
