A conversation with conceptual artist and community leader Brian Ellison and video and performance artist Kalup Linzy is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Glassell School of Art. The discussion will examine how art, community, and personal narrative in both artists’ practices can reflect and reshape the communities in which people live.
The panel explores the intersections of art, community, and personal narrative that appear in both artists’ practices.
Admission is free, and the event will take place in Favrot Auditorium on Level 1 of the Glassell School of Art, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Ellison is a Houston-based conceptual artist, photographer, and cinematographer and an MFA graduate of the University of Houston, where his thesis exhibition at the Blaffer Art Museum demonstrated his power to convene, inspire, and elevate; he credits art with saving his life and has used it as a catalyst for healing and community connection for others. A former educator, he serves as director of public programs at Project Row Houses in Houston’s Third Ward and founded the Black Man Project, a nonprofit that creates safe spaces for vulnerability and healing for Black men and women through a community therapy model.
Linzy is the founder of Queen Rose Art House in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The event is part of a series bringing local, national, and international speakers in contemporary art, criticism, and scholarship to the Glassell School of Art.
