Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo will present an artist talk and participatory work experience program centered on sculptor Makoto Ito’s wearable work 'BOAT' on August 8, 2026. The event is linked to 'MOT Collection: Hajimete, Bijutsu' and is scheduled to run from 3:30 pm to 5:45 pm at the museum in Tokyo.

According to the museum’s event listing, the program is designed to introduce Ito’s practice through direct discussion of the work before giving visitors the chance to try it on. Ito’s sculptures use a range of materials and unexpected forms to question the act of looking, and the museum describes 'BOAT' as a work that can unsettle each viewer’s habitual sense of what feels familiar.

The afternoon will begin with the talk from 3:30 pm to 4:15 pm in the entrance hall, in front of the collection galleries. Participation in the talk is free, and the museum says attendees should gather directly at the venue at the start time. For visitors who need hearing support, a limited number of Roger neck loops compatible with telecoil systems will be available.

The work experience segment begins at 4:30 pm inside the collection galleries, in the first-floor atrium. The museum notes that places are limited to about 36 participants, divided between 12 people for the full real-work version and 24 for a simplified version. Distribution of numbered tickets for the hands-on portion will start at 2:30 pm that day in the same first-floor atrium area.

The museum also states that the version of the work currently on view cannot be used for the experience. Participants will instead try a different version of the work than the one shown in the gallery, even though the program centers on the same piece, 'BOAT'.

Admission for the work experience requires a valid same-day ticket for the exhibition, an MOT Passport, or presentation of a disability certificate or equivalent documentation. The event is scheduled for August 8, 2026, at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo in Koto, Tokyo, with the talk free and the hands-on portion subject to entry requirements and limited capacity.
