‘Edith Collier: Early New Zealand Modernist’ is scheduled to run from 3 October 2026 to 8 February 2027.
The exhibition presents Edith Collier as an adventurous and experimental Whanganui painter who was one of the outstanding artists of her era in Aotearoa New Zealand, while taking a fresh look at her remarkable achievement at a time of growing international interest in the work of women modernists.
‘Edith Collier: Early New Zealand Modernist’ was curated by Jill Trevelyan, Jennifer Taylor and Greg Donson, and was developed and toured by Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery. A highlighted work is Collier’s ‘Boy Against Landscape’, painted in 1914–15 in oil on canvas.
