Shapero Modern is presenting ‘Art in Motion,’ an exhibition of work by Alexander Calder. The presentation is at the gallery’s flagship location, 94 New Bond Street, W1S 1SJ, with the collection available to view from 24 September.

The exhibition brings together original gouaches, drawings, a substantial body of lithographs and tapestry work, considering Calder’s sustained preoccupation with balance, colour and line across four decades and multiple media. Taken together, the works address equilibrium, movement and the relationship between form and space across paper and textile.

‘Seahorse’ draws on a motif with particular resonance for Calder, placing the sea creature within his broader interest in biomorphic form. ‘L’Etoile Rouge’ demonstrates his recurring vocabulary of stars, spirals and organic shapes in lithographic form.
