Crawford Art Gallery, in partnership with Triskel Arts Centre, will present Artists Film International 2026 under the theme ‘A Kind of Power’. The 2026 edition brings together artists and partner organisations from across the globe and sets out to examine how systems of power shape the act of looking and the conditions under which people are seen.
For this year’s programme, Crawford Art Gallery has selected artist Thaís Muniz to present her short film ‘The Kite Ballet’. The gallery’s announcement identifies the work as part of the international AFI project and places it within a shared curatorial framework focused on image, visibility and power. A photo caption on the gallery page credits ‘The Kite Ballet’ to 2024 and lists Antonello Veneri as photographer, with the image courtesy of the artist.
Crawford Art Gallery is currently closed for redevelopment, a detail that makes the partnership with Triskel Arts Centre central to the presentation of this year’s AFI programme. According to the gallery, all films will be shown in Triskel on a loop throughout the day, with screenings changing weekly. The programme is presented as a drop-in event with free entry and no booking required.
The films will run across three blocks during August 2026: Tuesday 11 to Thursday 13, Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20, and Tuesday 25 to Thursday 27. On each of those days, the screenings are scheduled from 10:00 to 15:30, with the looped programme lasting approximately 45 minutes before repeating. The event date range listed by the gallery places the overall presentation at Triskel Arts Centre in Cork, Ireland.
Alongside the screening programme, a public talk will take place on Thursday 27 August at Triskel Arts Centre. The gallery says the discussion will bring together Thaís Muniz and Dr Eve Olney, and will be moderated by Dawn Williams, curator of Crawford Art Gallery. The talk is scheduled from 13:00 to 13:50.
Artists Film International is being presented as a collaborative project rather than a single-artist screening, with the 2026 theme ‘A Kind of Power’ framing the selection. The gallery’s description stresses the global reach of the programme and its focus on how power affects seeing and being seen, while this year’s Crawford selection brings Muniz and ‘The Kite Ballet’ into that wider network of participating artists and partner organisations.
