Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph, Vermont, is opening an exhibition of pastel landscape paintings by local artist Skye Forest. Titled ‘Transcendence: Inviting Tranquility’, the show is installed in the Lower Gallery and will be seen for the first time at a reception on Friday, September 25, from 5 to 7 PM, with refreshments provided by the Chandler Gallery committee.
In its newsletter, Chandler describes the work as a captivating and calming group of pastels. The announcement does not give a closing date or say how many works are included.
Forest is not new to the venue. The artist was among the more than thirty participants in ‘Light & Shadow’, Chandler’s 2025 annual area artist exhibition, which asked artists working in different mediums to consider how light can reveal and transform while shadow adds mystery and depth. ‘Transcendence’ gives Forest a dedicated space in the building on North Main Street.
The Lower Gallery show opens on the same evening as a second exhibition upstairs. In the Main Gallery, Chandler is presenting Marjorie Ryerson’s ‘Water Music’, which looks at how the Vermont artist’s book of that name came together. The book pairs one hundred of her photographs of water with essays, poems, song lyrics and compositions by sixty-six musicians, among them Evelyn Glennie, Renée Fleming, Bobby McFerrin and Pete Seeger, and the exhibition also considers the book’s role in efforts to protect and restore water and provide clean drinking water. Saxophonist Paul Winter, who wrote the book’s introduction, will give a concert connected to the exhibition on Thursday, October 22, at 7 PM.
