The Armory Show 2026 takes place in New York from 24 to 27 September 2026. The presentation is titled ‘Three Women Across Generations: Toko Shinoda, Atsuko Tanaka, and Dai Ying.’
The showcase explores feminine power, cultural evolution, and the potential of abstraction through the artists’ diverse forms of expression. Atsuko Tanaka’s ‘Electric Dress’ (1956) was a wearable sculpture composed of flashing lightbulbs and colourful electric wires, an approach connected in the presentation to technology and human connection.
Based in New York and Beijing, Dai Ying builds on traditional Chinese painting while addressing contemporary issues of female power, cultural identity, and cosmic logic. Her intricate visual structures use Chinese rice paper, silk, acrylics, mineral pigments, and oil paint, with layered mediums forming what the presentation describes as a hybrid system of artistic expression.
Dai Ying’s recurring counterclockwise spiral symbolizes fertility, energy flow, and reconnection to primal vitality. ‘Goddess 25’ (2025) is made with Chinese and Japanese painting pigments, acrylic, and oil on Chinese xuan paper.
The gallery says Dai Ying’s latest works will be presented as a dynamic confluence of chance, control, and subconscious emotion, challenging conventional boundaries between Eastern and Western artistic vocabularies.
