La Boverie in Liège has set out where three paintings from its permanent collections can currently be seen, each of them away on loan. The museum presents this as routine rather than exceptional, noting that works from its holdings are regularly requested for exhibitions at other Belgian institutions and abroad.
Claude Monet’s Le Bassin du Commerce is in “Monet au Havre” at the Musée d’art moderne André Malraux, an exhibition La Boverie links from its own announcement. It opened on 5 June 2026, was mounted for the centenary of Monet’s death, and brings together around a hundred works and documents covering the three decades the painter spent between Le Havre and Paris; the host museum presents it within the 2026 edition of the Normandie Impressionniste festival. The Liège canvas was painted around 1874 and measures 37 by 45 centimetres — the year the host identifies both with the first Impressionist exhibition in Paris and with the last series of Le Havre marine subjects Monet executed. It is credited there to the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Liège / La Boverie. That exhibition closes on 27 September 2026.
Franz Marc’s Chevaux au pâturage has gone to the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf for “Franz Marc. Die Suche nach einer besseren Welt”, where it stays until 24 January 2027. La Boverie describes the painting as fragile and says its conservation requirements keep it off the walls most of the time. The museum makes that point about the work’s display generally; it does not say anything about how often the painting travels.
Émile Claus’s Le Vieux Jardinier has joined “De tiende tentoonstelling” at Het Kunstuur in Mechelen, which La Boverie says is accessible until 13 June 2027.
The three loans therefore run on very different clocks, the earliest ending within days and the latest not until the following summer. La Boverie gives no single date for the announcement itself, and does not say whether the departed works are being replaced in the Liège display while they are away, or name any further loans in preparation.
