Jyväskylä Art Museum will organize three expert lectures related to Helene Schjerfbeck in autumn 2026, with the programme taking place primarily online. The series covers the history of art collections, exhibition work, fashion and Schjerfbeck’s art. The lectures are scheduled for Thursdays 1, 15 and 29 October, each at 5 p.m. They accompany the museum’s exhibition ‘Schjerfbeck x Nordean Taidesäätiö’, which presents five paintings by Schjerfbeck from the Nordea Art Foundation collection.
Anu Kehusmaa, managing director of the Nordea Art Foundation, will discuss the history of the Nordea Art Collection and how bank art acquisitions have become a significant part of Finnish cultural heritage. Her lecture will be held remotely and is free, with advance registration.
Writer and art historian Anna Kortelainen will examine the background of the new exhibition ‘Tammisaaren Helene’, which can be followed at the museum’s Taikatila (€20) or remotely via Teams (€15). The lecture addresses how the exhibition about Tammisaari’s most famous resident was constructed, as well as its themes, exhibition-making choices and related ethical questions.
The series concludes with a remote lecture (€15) by Lotta Nylund titled ‘Schjerfbeck, Fashion and the Modern Woman’. Nylund will examine Schjerfbeck’s relationship with fashion and the theme of the modern woman in the artist’s work from the 1920s and 1930s.
