The installation is built from materials from the MAX IV research facility, in collaboration with the facility’s technicians and engineers.
'Stråltid' borrows a principle from MAX IV but replaces synchrotron light with laser light to make visible what lives in water.
The water is prepared for 'Stråltid', and with the help of the radiation, what is otherwise invisible to the naked eye becomes visible. Visitors photograph or film their illuminated water drop and carry the work with them on their phones.
When the laser beam is switched off, the installation is dismantled and the material returns to MAX IV. In 'Stråltid', Rainsford works with the ephemeral both as a theme and as a method.
The visitors’ stories about the origin of the water become both a mapping and a narrative shaped by the audience itself. 'Stråltid' also returns Rainsford to a strand in her practice in which storytelling functions as a connective force.
