‘Reconsidering Impressionism’ is a two-day conference inspired primarily by the museum’s remarkable Mellon Collection of Impressionism. The event brings leading scholars in art history together to explore fresh perspectives on the revolutionary style of Impressionism.
The conference begins Friday at 3 pm, with that day’s panel followed by a keynote lecture in the evening; panels continue Saturday. The first panel examines the materials and techniques used by Impressionist artists under the title ‘Revisiting the Materials and Techniques of the Impressionists.’ Its focus is stated through a programme title that addresses the materials and techniques of the Impressionists.
Panel 2 is titled ‘Reexamining Berthe Morisot and Mary Cassatt.’ The programme also considers Impressionism beyond paintings through Panel 3, titled ‘Reimagining Impressionism Beyond Paintings.’ Together, the listed panel titles place materials, techniques, two artists, and forms beyond painting within the conference programme.
The final panel is titled ‘Reevaluating Impressionism in the Age of Empire.’ The conference coincides with the special exhibition ‘The Impressionist Revolution: Monet to Matisse’ from the Dallas Museum of Art.
