As part of 'In/Between,' Amanda Browder’s 'Civic Sparkle' activates one of RAM Downtown’s interior gallery spaces.
'Civic Sparkle' presents portions of an earlier work by Browder alongside behind-the-scenes material documenting the creation of 'Zig & Zag,' the piece installed on the museum’s exterior. The presentation invites visitors to experience Browder’s large-scale textile work, created with community-donated fabrics, from a closer perspective.
'Zig & Zag' weaves RAM’s acrylic-paneled facade with multicolored fabric, offering a new perspective on a familiar building. Local volunteers crafted the project during sewing days hosted by Browder, making it a celebration of color, pattern, location, community and sustainability.
Browder collaborates with local community groups and sources her textiles from local donations, amplifying multiple voices. She currently lives in Brooklyn and has produced more than 30 large-scale fabric installations around the world.
'In/Between' is RAM’s new multi-arts festival, extending the museum’s reach across Racine County through visual arts, performing arts and participatory experiences.
