Anthony Shapland’s solo exhibition will include his new film ‘Sleeper’, alongside recent moving-image works. It will also include a reading space with writing commissions by Maria Fusco, Dylan Huw and Naomi Pearce.
Shapland’s solo show will be guest-curated by long-time peer and associate Marie-Anne McQuay, previously curator of Liverpool Biennial 2025, with Tŷ Pawb Creative Director Jo Marsh.
Within his writing and artistic practice, Shapland blends documentary and fiction, drawing on his lived experience of rural queerness and growing up performing straight.
‘Between the Dog and the Wolf’ (2019) encapsulates the artist’s interest in the cinematic illusion of shooting day for night.
The themes to be discussed include queer identity and working-class life in rural and marginal communities, as well as imitation and illusion in nature and culture. The discussion will also address the ways Anthony integrates writing into his visual art.
