Morgan Quaintance’s exhibition ‘I’ll Always Remember…’, co-curated by Temple Bar Gallery + Studios and Alice Butler, runs from 2 October to 22 November 2026.
‘Bourdieu’ is a significant new film exploring Quaintance’s childhood experience of living between London and Chicago through Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of reflexivity. The film is presented as a new experimental feature made in tandem with ‘I’ll Always Remember…’, the artist’s exhibition at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios.
Using Bourdieu’s practical sociology as an interpretative framework, the exhibition presents a single, multifaceted body of work comprising photography, sculptural intervention and moving image. Its image, text and material references include documentation of Chicago housing project the Robert Taylor Homes, vernacular fashions of early Chicago street gangs, Bourdieu’s fieldwork and photography in Algeria, advertorial from Ebony magazine, and independent biography.
Quaintance deploys individual images, objects and symbols to produce a complex, singular visual language that is at once familiar, remote, abstract and indexical.
His work has been shown and exhibited at festivals and institutions including MoMA in New York, Konsthall C in Stockholm, Courtisane Film Festival in Ghent and John Hansard Gallery in Southampton. He is the recipient of a number of awards for his work, most recently the 2025 Film London Jarman Award.
