A session exploring ‘American Stories: Revolution to Rockwell’ is scheduled for 9:30 am on Friday, September 25.
Chief Curator Stephanie Haboush Plunkett will describe how, during times of war, artists and illustrators have worked as reporters, makers of propaganda, and mythmakers.
Norman Rockwell and J. C. Leyendecker are included among the artists involved in wartime image production. The session will consider the ethical responsibilities of artists involved in producing such wartime images.
It will also pose questions about memory, accountability and the relevance of wartime imagery in contemporary society.
