Many have been coming by the museum to catch a last glimpse of 'Phyllis Graber Jensen: Picture Stories'. The exhibition is on view from June 12 through September 19, 2026.
Photographer Phyllis Graber Jensen reflects on the defining moments behind some of her favorite images in 'Picture Stories', a retrospective exhibition celebrating her distinguished career in visual storytelling.
'Picture Stories' surveys Jensen's work from her documentation of the women's liberation movement in Denmark in the 1970s, through her time as a staff photographer at the Boston Herald, to her years in Maine. It presents photography as a critical mode of communication and historical preservation, with newly printed and archival photographs shown alongside magazines, newspaper clippings and other ephemera.
Phyllis Graber Jensen is Director of Photography and Video for Bates College's Office of Communications and Marketing. Before joining Bates as a staff writer in 1995, she worked in photojournalism for the Maine Times, The Boston Herald, The Associated Press and the City of Boston. The exhibition is accompanied by a book published in collaboration with the Bates Office of Communications and Marketing, celebrating thirty years of Jensen's photographic record of life at Bates.
The exhibition is curated by Dr. Carrie Cushman, Director of the Bates College Museum of Art.
