The Museo Civico di Modena exhibition opens on 18 September 2026 and runs until 10 January 2027, with its inauguration coinciding with Festivalfilosofia’s ‘Caos’ programme. The exhibition is presented in the centenary year of Giorgio Scapinelli’s birth.
Pinocchio, Don Quixote and Baron Münchhausen are presented for the first time with their complete stories. The three characters were drawn in the 1950s.
The exhibition places Scap’s work in dialogue with his entire production, including comics, illustrations, paintings, advertising and Carosello characters. It also frames Scap’s imagery alongside Italy’s transformation from the postwar period to the economic boom.
The exhibition is curated by Stefano Bulgarelli of the Museo Civico di Modena, with the collaboration of Scapinelli’s heirs.
