The Musée d’art de Rouyn-Noranda will present the acquisition from 23 October to 22 November 2026, with an inauguration scheduled for 30 October.
René Homier-Roy’s estate contacted the museum because of his affection for the Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, offering the art collection that still hung on the walls of his apartment at Habitat 67.
Born in 1940, Homier-Roy died on 14 September 2025 at the age of 85; a few months earlier, he was still hosting Radio-Canada’s ‘Culture Club’.
Although he covered culture generally, Homier-Roy was particularly interested in cinema and strongly supported the Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, attending it many times and consistently giving it a prominent place in his Radio-Canada programmes.
The collection includes a work by Serge Lemoyne and works by Louis Comtois, Fernand Leduc, Jacques Hurtubise, Richard Max-Tremblay, Kittie Brueau and Arthur Villeneuve.
It also contains two works by Guido Molinari featuring vertical stripes, associated with his research into the optical frequencies of colour.
