'James Welling: Cento' will be on view at Fairfield University Art Museum’s Walsh Gallery from September 25 through December 12, 2026.
The exhibition focuses on more than 60 recent works by photographer James Welling from the 'Cento' and 'Personae' series.
The photographs depict ancient sites in Italy and Greece, as well as antiquities found in museums around the world, and were subjected to digital and painterly manipulation by Welling.
They will be exhibited alongside a selection from the Museum’s extensive historic plaster cast collection of Greek and Roman sculpture.
An opening-night reception and exhibition viewing will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Walsh Gallery and Lobby.
Welling describes his aim as “reanimating” the men and women of the ancient past and connecting them to the present through a combination of photography and painting.
