A 16.4-tonne concrete Porsche is shown in front of the Heidi Horten Collection. Photographs, films and further works are presented in the museum.
The exhibition frames Gottfried Bechtold’s practice through his decades-long engagement with the automobile, reproduction, seriality and documentation. The related works are intended to show that the concrete Porsche is not a singular object, but part of a broader artistic field developed over decades.
Bechtold is described as a major figure in Austrian contemporary art who has pursued a consistently conceptual, cross-media practice since the late 1960s.
A personal conversation in which the artist guides visitors through his work, which has repeatedly centered on the automobile for decades, is scheduled for Saturday, 19 September, at 11:30.
