An exhibition of Sheena Norquay’s work is currently showing at the North Coast Visitor Centre in Thurso until 17 October, before its scheduled presentation at the Main Art Gallery from 24 October to 5 December. The exhibition is described as part of a 2026 Highland tour, with presentations in Thurso from 5 September to 17 October and at Inverness Museum & Art Gallery from 24 October to 5 December.
Norquay’s richly detailed quilts bring together fabric, thread, painting and printmaking to explore landscape, nature and storytelling. The work is inspired by the coastlines and landscapes of Orkney, Norse mythology and the traditions of quilt-making, and is filled with colour, texture, pattern and intricate detail.
The quilts range from rolling seas and sweeping shorelines to shells, stones and hidden symbols, with new details revealed through closer looking.
The exhibition brings together a carefully selected collection of Norquay’s work, offering visitors the opportunity to explore a small part of her career in textile art.
